Let’s Talk Dirty!

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Going back to my earlier blog on life in Paris.  Yes, it’s wonderful to take the dog everywhere but…did you know that dog poo incidents are a common cause of casualty admittance in Paris?  Slip and slides on the treacherous stuff can lead to bruising, grazing, stitches and for the most unlucky, broken limbs.  Even […]

If only they could talk…

Thursday, August 24th, 2006

If only they could talk was an apt title of one of dear James Herriot’s books about life as a vet. I think I must say this at least 5 times per day
Today has been a classic example of this. I needed to ultrasound a cat’s bladder.  If she could understand, I could have  suggested that she […]

Can we live in Paris please?

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

I met up with my friend Marjie for coffee apres-church.  She asked where the dog was and I looked rather quizzically at her. In this country, dogs are seen as health and safety risks and banned from eating places however she lives in Paris. Rather than banishing dogs from eateries, shops etc… they are positively […]

Kittens

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

Not only will this post provide ample opportunity to induldge in cute kitten pics, it will also help redress the balance. I feel I’ve become a bit catist (or dogist?)
So you’ve had the lowdown on settling a new canine into the pack, here’s the same for a kitten.

Present ripping day

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Dear M,
One of the strange traditions of the humans, which is nonetheless terrific fun, is their occasional present ripping day.
I knew there was something different about the day, I could sense it so made special effort to escape from the table football room first thing to take part in the celebrations.  The way […]

A New Addition

Monday, August 14th, 2006

I’m expecting…
…no… not in that way.  My parents will have to settle for another grandpuppy for now.
Spot is coming to live with us.  He’s a 9yr Springer Spaniel and a lovely chap. Spot worked as a shooting dog but is retiring and needs to make way for some up-and-coming Spaniel that can run a bit faster.  Spot lived at […]

A Dog’s Blog

Sunday, August 13th, 2006

So dogs can blog?
I particularly like this cartoon featured on Matthew Stibbe’s blog.  He’s discussing who and why on earth anyone bothers to blog..  Interesting debate, you can join in…
In my case, I’m bursting with opinions and advice on pet care, veterinary health and animal welfare.  It’s great to have a medium to discuss these and […]

Dear M,
I’ve been closely observing the humans and I’ve noticed even less time spent throwing my ball for me.  Instead they sit at the computer hitting the bobbly plastic thing.  Having carefully ear-flapped on their conversation I have discovered the new fun thing to do is to be a “blogger” so I have managed to […]

PETS AS THERAPY

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Pets have been medically proven to reduce blood pressure.  In addition, they’re a great source of comfort; they don’t speak and they don’t judge, they just stand by you.
I’ll never forget failing my driving test. I buried my head in my dog’s fur and wailed for hours!  My cats have helped me through some nights of […]

Why I Love Animals

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

I love animals mostly because theres no pretence with them, they cant help but be themselves.  Left to their own devices, they will do whatever comes naturally and it is an ultimately relaxing experience for us to watch them doing so. Whether its a lamb frolicking, horses serenely grazing or a cat peaceful in the […]
